The Second part of the Journey.

Bristol to St Margaret’s Hope, Orkney

Saturday 24th April. We started off from Dave’s Depot at 11.00am, heading up towards Inverness where we would make an overnight stop. Well the journey was uneventful , the Motorway was clear all the way and the weather was dry and sunny. A lunch stop at Westmoreland Motorway services .we eventually stopped for the night at Broxden Services near Perth , after a long day it was time to get some food and have an early night.
Sunday 25th.
We were on the road again by 6.20am heading up past Inverness towards the top of Scotland, We stopped off at Pittlockery to see the Dam and Salmon ladder, before heading on north, we arrived at Gills Bay at about mid afternoon to catch the ferry to St Margaret’s Hope. The Ferry trip was uneventful and we were soon settled in at the Murray Arm’s Hotel.
Monday 26th.
A good nights sleep and we were ready to unload, apart from the persistent rain the move went quickly and we were finished by late afternoon. After our evening meal we spent the evening in the bar talking to the landlord and the locals, a nice ending to a long day.
Tuesday 27th.
Today we went sightseeing and bird watching Driving around in the lorry, you get a great view from the cab. First we went to Kirkwall and then to Stromness and back to St Margaret’s Hope, Plenty of good birds including Great northern Diver, Short eared Owl & Long tailed Duck, total number of species was about thirty.
Wednesday 28th.
Early morning Ferry and we were on the road again, it took us a day and a half to get back ,arriving back at the yard at midday.
